Strips of electronic interference visually transform three-dimensional painting into a flat, almost non-figurative one. The four basic elements - water, earth, fire and air – seem to lose their original meanings, being polluted by information garbage.
To the discomfort of meteorological dependence (atmospheric pressure drops, magnetic storms, temperature fluctuations), a new plague is added – MEDIA dependence. In recent years, the relationship with information and the world around us has been changing rapidly. We have witnessed how a large number of people exist without taking the headphones out of their ears and without looking away from the screen of a smartphone, computer, or TV.
There is nothing wrong with radio, television or social media. The bad thing is that they are used for various manipulations. Instead of useful information, they use propaganda, instead of answering questions, they use advertising. As a result, we eat what someone thinks is tasty and healthy, wear what someone thinks is stylish and comfortable, and elect people to power who are the last to care about the interests of society.
It seems to me that this is the main message of Eduard Potapenkov's exhibition "Media Addiction", which will open at the Triptych Art gallery in Kyiv on July 17 at 19:00.
And one more thing – the artist does not try to technically simplify the presentation of his ideas to the viewer by illustrative schematic images. The paintings are real, skillful paintings.
