Ivan Tverdun

Understanding a person in an instant — grasping what lies beneath the surface — is rarely possible. More often, we rely on appearances: clothing, hairstyle, a beard, the outer signs that reveal little about what truly occupies the mind or heart. This is especially true when the subject is an artist.

Ivan Tverdun emerged within the vibrant artistic milieu of Lviv, where sincerity and openness shaped his approach, often exposing the raw and unfiltered essence of human relationships.

After completing his studies at the Faculty of Interior Architecture of the Lviv Academy of Arts in 1985, he became aware of the limitations imposed by conventional artistic frameworks — those safe, repetitive formulas that discourage stepping beyond accepted boundaries. Yet Tverdun’s inner philosophy — "the joy of living, free from fear"— called for a personal visual language, one that not everyone readily understands. As the artist himself suggests, an unfinished work can sometimes express an idea more directly and intensely than a completed piece.
