Born in Lviv into the family of sculptor Vasyl Odrekhivskyi, he graduated from the Lviv Academy of Arts and pursued postgraduate studies at the Mukhina Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial School.
He obtained a Ph.D. in Art History at the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture of the USSR Academy of Arts in 1985. Volodymyr also completed an internship at the Higher National School of Fine Arts in Paris in 1992.
