Anna Lysyk. Night Before Dawn

Anna Lysyk rarely holds exhibitions. The last time she presented her work was in 2020, in a joint exhibition with works by her father, the outstanding artist and scenographer Yevhen Lysyk. This is not surprising, considering how meticulous and labor-intensive the ceramic objects she creates are.

Each three-dimensional ceramic piece is covered with fine graphic ornamentation or narrative imagery created using pigments, enamels, and various ancient techniques preserved by artists for thousands of years. Anna Lysyk creates timeless works, guided by her philosophy of thoughtful reflection on existence.

This time, Anna Lysyk has united more than 10 of her newest works, created between 2020 and 2026, under the title "Night Before Dawn."

As Anna writes:

"Anyone who has ever been awake at night knows: the hardest hours come before dawn, when the darkness seems the densest, and the soul feels its loneliness and lostness in the infinite world more acutely than ever. In these тяжкі, leaden hours it seems that time has stopped and the night will never end. And suddenly, a miracle happens — birds begin to sing. At first, their voices are solitary and timid. But moment by moment the song grows stronger. Soon, an invisible structure of a symphony rises into the sky, filling the space. And the sky itself begins to fill, swirling with blue, the darkness retreats, and a new day arrives — the day we have all been waiting for."

The exhibition opens on March 31 at 18:00.

It will run until April 26, 2026.

Biography

Anna Lysyk was born in 1964 in Lviv.

In 1987 she graduated from the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts.

Since 1988 she has worked in the creative workshop of ceramic artists at the Lviv Ceramic and Sculpture Factory.

In 2005 — recipient of the "Gaude Polonia" scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Poland.

In 2012 — Regional Prize in Applied Arts named after Zenovii Flinta.
