Myron Kataran

Myron Kataran

The artist was born in 1984 in the village of Lysiatychi, Stryi district, Lviv region. He received his professional education at the Kosiv College of Decorative and Applied Arts and at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, Department of Ceramics. However, he found the greatest expression of his talent in graphics and painting.

In his work, the artist appeals to human existence and the exploration of its philosophy through visual art, both figurative and non-objective. He actively experiments with techniques and styles. The artist works within three creative programs:

  • "Grotesque Graphics," in which, in his own manner and with grotesquely exaggerated proportions, he has created a large series of lively, dynamic portraits of world music stars (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, and others);

  • "Allegory – Metaphor," in which computer graphics are used to create sketch-projects for monumental canvases composed of small, complete elements that, when optically blended from a distance, form unified compositions—often contrasting or opposite in meaning to their individual components (for example, in the painting "Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing," a sheep’s figure is formed from small images of wolves);

  • "Abstraction – Association," in which the artist creates large-scale, highly detailed abstract canvases that are harmoniously balanced in composition and color.

He is a participant in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. He takes part in national and international competitions, including:

  • 2006 — All-Ukrainian Academic Painting Competition (Kyiv);

  • 2007 — All-Ukrainian Academic Drawing Competition (Kharkiv);

  • 2008 — International Pottery Plein Air (Kosiv).

His works are held in private collections in Ukraine and Europe.
