Lukasz Butowski

Łukasz Butowski works across painting, drawing, and printmaking, with a particular dedication to traditional lithography. In his creative practice, Butowski places emphasis on the pursuit and creation of pleasure. Yet this process is rarely simple: the act of making often demands intense effort and discomfort. What begins as a joyful impulse can gradually shift into themes of transience, loss, and even death. Despite these emotional transformations, the artist continues to find deep satisfaction in his work — an approach he half-jokingly describes as a form of artistic masochism. In this sense, he sees himself as a distinctly contemporary artist, even while remaining committed to traditional techniques and media.
