The beach is Eden. In the understanding of a modern person, it is Eden — a place where one enjoys the most primal pleasures.
From childhood, when my whole family would go on summer vacations together, to today, when I take my grandchildren swimming, this is how I relate to it: sun, water, and idleness… And there is always a desire to preserve this feeling.
This is how my works emerge. A woman lies like an ancient goddess; two people talk under the September sun; or a line of poetry comes to mind… In these genre scenes, I perceive certain timeless allusions, and I capture them.
At times it feels like I’m tired of everything, that I no longer want to continue… But summer returns, I go to the beach, and once again I see what I want to preserve.
My father was always drawing. His curiosity about life expressed itself through a pencil. Of course, he also drew at the beach everything he saw around him. His characters are slightly grotesque and distinctive, making them very recognizable. Looking at them, I immerse myself in that time and remember those people.
This exhibition presents my father’s drawings from different periods, some created long before I was born.
Yet all of them are united by the place that gave rise to them, just like my "girls" and others…
And that place is the beach.
The exhibition opens on February 27 at 18:00.
The exhibition runs till March 18, 2026.
