The Faith, Hope, Love series is a deep cultural and emotional statement. The harmony of shapes and lines conveys a sense of light, warmth, and forward movement, and the author conveys her own understanding of virtues as universal ideals that unite humanity through her works.
The idea of the triptych is inspired by the legend of the three sisters - Faith, Hope, and Love - which tells of perseverance and loyalty to universal virtues.
According to the legend, in the second century, a widow Sophia and her daughters lived in Rome. During the persecution of dissidents, Emperor Hadrian learned about the family and demanded that they renounce their faith and worship pagan gods. Despite threats and promises, the girls steadfastly professed their faith.
They were subjected to severe torture, but they remained steadfast. Eventually, all three were executed. Sofia buried her daughters and died three days later at their grave.
This story has become a symbol of resilience and fidelity to faith.
Olha Hladushevska's paintings depict the sisters as the adult women they could have become if they had escaped death.
The series was painted in 2023-2024.
"Love" was damaged due to missile hit and the scar was left after restoration.
"Hope" was in a studio that was damaged by a missile hit on the Bristol Hotel in Odesa, but the painting survived.
"Faith" was more fortunate.
