In 2003, the famous Ukrainian graphic artist and painter Anatoliy Marchuk presented the city of Makariv with his own collection of paintings and sculptures, consisting of 80 works by 60 Ukrainian artists.

He collected this collection for thirty years, and still it is regularly replenished with new canvases created at the annual plein airs in the house of creativity "Manchuk's Estate" in the village of Kozychanka, Makariv district.

Currently, the collection includes about 200 works of classics of Ukrainian fine arts. Today, the gallery is no longer able to accommodate existing exhibits due to lack of storage. Paintings of folk and honored artists are just on the floor.

By donating his collection, the artist firmly believed that the gallery would be constantly built with the support of local authorities and eventually grow into a full-fledged museum of fine arts.

Anatoliy Marchuk says:

- For twenty years I traveled around Europe with personal exhibitions. And what impressed me? Each of the smallest villages has an art gallery and a coat of arms at the entrance. I'm not talking about cities. Currently, in the Kyiv - capital - region there are as many as five art galleries in the district centers (and 25 districts), I am silent about the villages. So let's understand what our cultural level is.

However, the Makariv Art Gallery, located in the House of Culture, has gained amazing popularity (it is listed in tourist guides, people from all over Ukraine go on excursions), because its quality is impressive - among artists there are many folk and honored artists, academics, professors. But once one of the officials asked me: "Why are you, Anatoly Petrovich, so proud of that gallery? What, there are such big paintings? .. "I answered:" Yes, no, the paintings are small, but great artists! "
