The BLACK PASTELS series is an experiment with the study of the body. Each work is created in the format of 15-minute nude sketches, painted both during personal posing of models in the artist's studio and at public drawing sessions in galleries in Kyiv and Lviv.
The series was born in 2022, after the full-scale Russian invasion. Initially, it was a way for the artist to distract himself and continue his artistic practice, because it was impossible to work with intellectual concepts as usual, both for moral and volitional reasons. In order not to slip into the conjuncture and remain honest with himself, the artist decided to focus on expression and working with nature, which later resulted in a full-fledged series that now includes more than 100 works.
