The trauma of loss – it lasts a lifetime. Yes, houses are rebuilt, new children are born, new people emerge... Life goes on, but there remains a hole in the heart and soul forever... A place that will never heal – it can only mend. Like glass. It seems to protect, but a slight blow – and it shatters... That's why it's important to remember it – it's delicate here, it can break. It's very sensitive here, it needs to be cherished...
A symbolic imprint of the soul, a living person amidst a pile of bricks and stones... There were plenty of documentary photos, but those are documentary photos, they are about life. Staged photos began to appear, artistic ones, but for some reason, the lush Ukrainian women in wreaths and embroidered shirts among the ruins didn't inspire, they clashed and caused a reverse effect... Yes, we are strong, we will survive and triumph. But there is a very delicate moment that I could not ignore. Which is very important for all of us before we demolish the ruins of what was destroyed and build anew. It's memory.
I tried to capture memory. A symbolic image of a person amidst ruined life...
This series of works was executed using the author's technology. Using transfer paper, gold leaf, and watercolor paper. And it was this approach that gave a new meaning to each photo – "warm memory".
This series is very emotional. Behind each photo, there is its own personal story.
People who have experienced the trauma of loss are very sensitive. Their pain will be silent to everyone, it will never sound loud, but if you forget about this pain, you can very easily break that glass valve in the heart that helps to hold on and live on... We are humans, we are very strong – and very vulnerable...
