TOO HUMAN
BOHDAN SOKUR
Painting, graphics
18.04-01.05.2025
Opening on April 18 at 17:00
"When I paint a crowd of people, I don't want there to be a plot. I am interested in the crowd itself.
When I write a driver, I'm not interested in who he is or where he's going. I'm not interested in the driver either.
I write the feeling of the road, at least I try to."
The works presented at the exhibition are a continuation of Bohdan's vision of the world around him, only this time with the imprint of war on it.
Having found the time and energy to resume his artistic activity, he continues to capture the usual scenes of life, which do not necessarily contain the consequences of shelling or explosions.
As in places where missiles do not reach, the feeling of war is present in the air, between the lines and glances. For the viewer who lives through the war, the surrounding reality will be imbued with it anyway, while in Bohdan's case, the lived experience penetrates the works along with the paint.
The artist says that when comprehending art, he often refers to Nietzsche, who argued that it is an overcoming of the horror of life. In the light of the current state of affairs, this statement resonates with renewed vigor, outlining the path the artist continues to move forward.
