Once, a monotype didn’t turn out right. These things happen. I went to the bathroom to wash off the paint — and it suddenly dawned on me. The very act of washing — erasing the layer of information, memory, traces — turned out to be far more powerful than the failed work. The coincidence (or perhaps not quite a coincidence) that caught my attention grew into a metaphor that found its way into my hands. Forgotten places where life once thrived. A community once lived. I applied this technique in creating a monotype. A derelict synagogue in the town of Brody… Over time, the small details fade away, but the essence remains.
