Vasyl Petrovsky

My work is a dialog with the viewer through the echo of the quiet voices of our ancestors that continue to live on in folk wisdom, myths and legends. The choice of wood as the main material for the realization of ideas was not accidental; the technique of hand-carving allows me to "carve" these stories in a material that itself is a carrier of history.

In the abstract forms and symbols of my works, one can trace the Ukrainian ethnos, which I rethink through the prism of modernity. Each of my works is accompanied by an aphorism written on the subject of the work. These words are not just a text, but a key to a deeper understanding of the meaning of the work.

The art of the Middle Ages with its simple but expressive images inspires me to create works that, despite their visual simplicity, are rich in emotions and have their own charisma. These images make us think and feel the connection between us and the generations that came before us.

Vasyl Petrovsky was born on April 4, 1976 in the village of Kysorychi, Rokytne district, Rivne region, Ukraine. He received his artistic education at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, where he studied at the Faculty of Interior Design. In 2009, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

After graduation, Vasyl Petrovsky began his professional career in Germany, where he worked as a sculptor and wood carver at Europa Park for nine years, from 2011 to 2020. Here he realized numerous projects, both his own and commissioned by the park, which helped him gain experience and recognition.
