In her work, Sirenko explores and re-evaluates the topic of the most common fears and phobias, expressing it through art, as fear is the most powerful and primary, basic human emotion. The key figures in her paintings are stray dogs, which are her personal phobia, connected to the experience of being attacked by a stray dog with rabies. In her works, Krystyna uses her personal fear of stray dogs as a tool to reflect various social fears, turning her own phobia into a source of inspiration and artistic expression. The main goal of her work is to encourage viewers to rethink and overcome their own phobias, creating a space for emotional catharsis and deeper self-discovery through art. She explores her own negative emotions and obsessions through the prism of humour and irony, thereby reducing anxiety.
Krystyna Sirenko was born in Ukraine on 21 December 1988 to a family of architects. As a child, she studied at an art school and then graduated from Poltava National Technical Yuri Kondratyuk University in 2012 with a Master's degree in Urban Planning and a Master of Architecture with honours.
As an architect by profession, Krystyna felt that this field alone was not enough to express herself. So she turned to painting as a means of expressing her imagination and creativity without restrictions and rules. Her paintings have been exhibited in various countries, including Ukraine, the USA, Spain, Poland and Latvia. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Krystyna has been volunteering by painting various military artefacts for sale at charity events.
