Anatolii Furlet

The best place to work is at home in Ukraine. No matter how beautiful and tempting the world around you is, after a short aesthetic and creative euphoria abroad, filled with impressions, you fly back home to express everything you have accumulated, seen and experienced emotionally. For me, Ukraine is a miracle of miracles. There is nothing like it in the world: fertile land, people, customs, traditions, folklore, folk art, songs, fairy tales, legends, and ancient mounds with their inexhaustible messages to us... This is the lifeblood of my work. And that makes me feel somehow selfishly happy that I was born here on this earth... Serving art is something like a scale "either material or spiritual". And no material dividends can compensate for that rare moment when you realise that what you create raises you one step further, somewhere in the realm of the perfection of the Spirit...

"In an age when informativeness is replaced by informationalism, and the noise of neologisms obscures the true meanings, the world, preoccupied with flirting with contexts and topical issues of our time, constantly produces replicas of replicas. This also applies to art, where the quiet and self-concentrated deep is forced to give way to the superficial, bright, eloquent, annoying... Anatolii Furlet develops the traditions of deep, iconic art, which is based on the principles of our national fine arts, in particular the vector of the mythopoetic art school, which was formed in the early 1990s in Ukraine. Working as a painter and graphic artist, teaching his students, the artist refers to archaic figurative and sign systems, to the symbolism of ancient civilisations that left their mark on the Ukrainian territory. The artist's world is filled with lyrical and philosophical reflections, petroglyphic layers appear texturally from the hint of muted colours. Faces and figures frozen in a timeless space are full of mystery. This is how the Action is created, in the centre of which is Light." ("ABC-art" Gallery, Kyiv)

"Furlet's "surface of being" is a deep restoration of the national spirit, history, plastic and symbolic forms of the people's existence." (Ukrainian philosopher, Doctor of Philosophy Volodymyr Lychkovakh)
