Petro Smykovskyi

Petro Smykovskyi was born on June 3, 1961 in the Zhytomyr region, Ukraine. The artist received a thorough professional education. During 1977- 1981 he studied at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), majoring in «painter-teacher», and in 1990 he successfully graduated from the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute named after Ivan Fedorov, majoring in «graphic artist».

Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 2008.
Member of the Association of Philosophical Art since 2011 (Kyiv, Ukraine).
Winner of the Emerald Lyre Award of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (2010).
He was awarded the Diploma of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine for significant contribution to the creation of spiritual and material values of Ukraine (2011).
Diploma winner of the International Art Program «Art Olympus».

Petro Smykovsky is a well-known Ukrainian artist, whose creative potential is deep and boundless. His work has a clearly defined national character, his creative destiny illustrates the path of bold quests and accomplishments, the desire to reproduce the strong beauty of nature.

Peter Smykovsky’s painting is distinguished, first of all, by a special sense of color and a combination of simplicity and sophistication, artistic perfection and sincerity. Among the works of the artist – paintings of spiritual themes, thematic paintings, landscapes, portraits, still lifes. His landscapes are lyrical and touching. Portraits are candid and insightful. The portraits occupy a special place in the work of Petro Smykovskyi. It reveals a deep, secret, the very essence of the artist, which is the admiration for his characters.

The artist travels a lot in Ukraine and around the world. He records what he sees on the canvas, in his memory and heart. «Spring in Kyoto» (2014); «Japan. Mountain Sakura» (2013); «Gurzuf motif» (2008); «Old Man on the Bridge» (2011); «Carpathian Source» (2010) – are important among the landscapes of the master. The artist reproduces the subtlest shades of mood and experience in the images of nature. He conveys the special features of different parts of the Earth, the poetry of everyday motifs, unusual and touching in the eternal manifestations of nature. Petro Smykovskyi’s works are his sense of reality, woven from pleasant pastel colors. Achievements in the field of fine arts were presented by the artist at many All-Ukrainian, International art exhibitions. The artist has held more than ten solo exhibitions, two of which were in the Great Hall of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (2011, 2016). The artist’s personal exhibition of works was held in 2013 in Osaka, Japan, with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine. It was a great success. Numerous publications in the press, on television, in films, and published catalogs testify to the recognition of the artist’s work.

In 2013 and 2016, he was presented to the President of Ukraine by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, with the honorary title of «Honored Artist of Ukraine».

The artist’s works are owned by state museums of Ukraine and Russia, official institutions, and private collections in Ukraine and abroad, namely: the United States, Japan, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Latvia and others.
