A village on the shores of the Gulf of Finland (since 1948 - the village of Repino). Ilya Repin spent the last 30 years of his life here in his Penaty estate.
Until 1017, the village of Kuokkala was part of the Russian Empire. After 1917, when Finland gained independence, Repin automatically found himself in exile.
In 1930, the artist died and was buried in «Penates». And 10 years after his death, he still «returned» to his homeland. Kuokkala went to the Leningrad region and is now called Repino, which has become a kind of mecca for true connoisseurs of the great artist's art.
