Punin Nikolai Nikolaevich (November 16, 1888 - August 21, 1953), Russian and Soviet art historian, art critic.
In 1913-1934 he worked at the Russian Museum, after the revolution - Commissioner at the Russian Museum and the State Hermitage. In 1918-1919 he was in charge of the Petrograd Fine Arts Department of the People's Commissariat for Education. Together with V. Mayakovsky, O. Brik and E. Stahlberg, he is a member of the editorial board of the newspaper «Art of the Commune». In 1927, he headed the department and created an exposition of the latest trends in art at the Russian Museum. He held the post of deputy director of the Leningrad State Institute of Artistic Culture, later - a professor at the Leningrad State University and the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of the All-Russian Academy of Arts. In 1934 he was dismissed from the Russian Museum.
